Professional Gamer Turns Into a Rap Music Sensation

HOLLYWOOD – Hands sweating as he tightly gripped his controller, screaming at the characters on the screen until the words “Victory Royale” appear. He then looked through the window walls of his Hollywood mansion, to see a group of high schoolers trying to see in. This is a typical day in the life of FaZe Blaze.

Lucas Mosing, publicly known as FaZe Blaze, was born in Vienna, Austria. His family moved to Silicon Valley, California when he was about 12 months old for his father’s work in technology.

Mosing started playing video games when he was about nine years old and discovered FaZe Clan, the most popular esports organization in the world, when he was a freshman in high school. In his following four years of school, Mosing made YouTube videos of himself playing the viral video game at the time, Call Of Duty, and wanted to be exactly like FaZe.

“I started going for the FaZe Five Recruitment Challenges, which was a recruitment challenge that FaZe had every year to recruit five people from the community, you could be anybody. So I did that twice, I didn’t get in either year, but I kept working and making Youtube videos and I ended up getting into FaZe my senior year of high school,” he said.

When Mosing was recruited into FaZe, he had around 100,000 subscribers on Youtube. Now the 22-year-old has over 3 million Youtube subscribers, 1.4 million Twitter followers, and 1.1 million Instagram followers. Mosing has been living with members of FaZe since he graduated high school. Currently, he is living at the Hollywood FaZe House with about seven other members.

Like video games, Mosing has been strongly influenced by music for as long as he could remember. About three years ago, one of his best friends, Tristan Wells, started attending Icon Collective, a music production school in Los Angeles. This was the spark that began Mosing’s interest in creating music.

“I never really thought that I could make beats or create music. I thought it was too hard and then when he showed me that it was actually really easy, I fucking fell in love with it like crazy,” Mosing expresses, “that’s all I did and all I wanted to do every single morning when I woke up, more than play video games even.”

About a year into his creation of music, he started producing full beats and writing lyrics. He linked up with rapper RSK, having no idea he was about to produce a huge hit. Together they made the song “Woah Kemosabe,” which has about 30 million plays across all platforms, and reached Top 59 on the hip-hop and R&B charts on iTunes. In response, Mosing produced an entire album, which has a total of 12 songs. He hopes to release the album before next year.

While video games have been a tremendous part of his life, when asked which one he is more passionate about Mosing explains, “when it comes to just what makes me happy and what I want to invest my time in, it’s definitely music… video games for me are more of just a way to relax and chill at this point.”

Mosing’s biggest goal is to go on tour for his music. “I wanna take myself, my four best friends, and an actual team of people. Like a tour manager, a photographer, a videographer, and just create like an insane memory,” he explains. As he wants to succeed in the music industry, he also certainly wants to take his YouTube to the next level. His long-term goal is “to make FaZe the biggest and best thing possible,” he says.
