As the temperatures start to get colder and the leaves start to change, you’re going to start itching to change your apartment decor. Except it can be a bit pricey to change all of your decor all at once. So instead, there are a few cute fall decor ideas you can embrace to make your home feel a little more “cozy” this autumn.

1. Big, comfy blankets

Add a few throw blankets to your bed, couches, and loveseats. It’ll make it much more cozy when you have people over for a visit. They’ll want to snuggle right down into your fleece blankets and take an afternoon snooze, or settle in for a long movie with popcorn. Adding throw blankets to your bed and the areas where your guests will “hang out” makes your home a little more inviting.

2. Use scents to invite autumn into your home.

Cinnamon, pumpkin, and apple spice scents can all make your home warm and inviting during the fall season. The easiest way to make your home feel inviting is to get a wax warmer and invest in some scents that you really enjoy. Light scents that are also warm are usually the best way to go in the fall. While you may not prefer sweet, try any kind of apple spice scent. It’s quick, it’s easy, it’s simple, and your guests will love it.

3. Use pumpkins as decorations.

This might seem like a “given,” but using pumpkins as decorations are about as “fall” as you can get. Find some leaves on the ground, draw some faces on some pumpkins, and call it a day. It really can’t possibly get much simpler than that.

4. Invite guests over for a fall dessert tasting.

There’s no better way to decorate your apartment than with FOOD. People will come, for sure. And you’ll make nice with all the neighbors you made angry during football season. You’ll be loved because you can bake a smashing spread of desserts. You could even serve pumpkin spice coffee and ice cream (did you know there’s such a thing!).

5. Use accent pieces

Surely you’ve noticed that stores have started putting their fall items towards the front. Spend a few bucks on some decor for your living room that are oranges/browns/beiges. You’ll warm up the tone of your living room and it’ll feel like a mini-fall festival when you come home every day. You’ll enjoy feeling seasonal — something about fall makes everyone happy.

6. Actually use your fireplace.

Throw in some real logs and start a fire in the fireplace you never use. These cooler nights will be the perfect time to snuggle up with your hunny and watch a good movie. The crackling of a fire will make you cozier just because. It’ll get you awfully prepared for winter in a jiffy.

7. Make your own wreath

If you’re not much of a “DIY” person, don’t worry — these are easy. It’s only a few simple steps.

A fall wreath might be exactly what you’re missing. If you don’t want to make your own, consider buying a cheap one (it doesn’t have to last forever). A wreath sets the tone of your home, so if you’re trying to get in the spirit of autumn, start by creating a door that screams, “I LOVE FALL, DON’T YOU?”

8. Add flower arrangements anywhere they’ll fit.

Colorful flower arrangements will really bring out the fall feelings in your apartment. Head to your local craft store (or Walmart) and purchase some flowers that are fall colors. Put them all together and then buy a cheap vase. BAM. Welcome to the dining room table, autumn.

Sprucing up your apartment might seem like a big task. You might be overwhelmed by all of your options. Or you might hate decorating for holidays. But I promise just a smidgen of effort will make your home so much more inviting than you realize. Just a few simple tricks here and there and your apartment can be transformed into an autumn getaway. Make it cozy and inviting for your guests. Get yourself in the seasonal mood by baking and filling the house with warm scents. I promise you’ll be glad you did it.
