It’s that time of the year again. For football fans, it’s an exciting sight to see which two teams have made it this far, and it can also be a lot of fun rooting on favorite teams. It might even get a little competitive among friends, but that’s what makes it such a fun time.

This year, the New England Patriots will take on the Seattle Seahawks at the University of Phoenix Stadium in Glendale, Arizona for the 49th Super Bowl. Katy Perry will be performing for the famous halftime show.

As far as non-football fans go, let’s be honest: we only watch the Super Bowl for the parties, the entertaining commercials, and the thrilling halftime shows.

The party you attend can either make or break your Super Bowl experience. If there are too many, or too few people, it might not be ideal. If there is a lack of refreshments or food, it might just be tedious and boring.

Here is a list of 7 ways to throw the best super bowl party you can.

1. Invite the right people.

Group dynamic is always a telling factor of how a party will go, so it’s important to be aware of whom you’re inviting so as to make the most fun for everyone. You want to invite your friends from different groups, but you should make sure at least some of them know each other so there will be no one left out for the occasion. That would just be awkward.

Having a good, sizable group to watch the game is ideal; too few people who don’t know each other all that well could make for some awkward silences so invite a good amount of people, keeping in mind the space you have.

2. Fix up your space.

No one wants to go to a party at someone’s apartment/house/dorm that’s all messy, and appears as if the host hasn’t at all taken any time to rearrange, and clean up for guests.

Move nice pieces of furniture/decorations into rooms that won’t get disrupted to avoid damage, sweep floors, make space for sitting room, and do an overall check when you think you’ve cleaned up everything to make sure your space looks like somewhere you’d want to attend a party.

3. Decorate for the occasion.

If you have a favorite team/a preferred winning team for the game, decorate your space to show off your team pride. If you own paraphernalia for your team, hang it up, and spread it around.

If you have shot glasses, bowls, or anything like that, put it out. And of course, dress for the occasion. This could mean a jersey, hat, sweatshirt, or any other article of clothing you have that shows off your pride.

4. Offer great food.

You know your guests are going to be anticipating at least snacks, so give the people what they want. Lay out snacks and maybe even small appetizers on tables in the living room, surrounding the T.V., or wherever you’re planning on having everyone watch the game.

Try to have an equal quantity of everything, keep an eye out for refills, and also try to avoid foods that stain when spilled, or that are extremely messy. Also try to keep it to foods that don’t require a lot of silverware or cutlery. Using plastic everything is the best choice for an event like this.

5. Offer refreshments.

The only thing that best accompanies stocked snacks is a stocked bar. You’ll want to have a mixture of drinks, both alcoholic and non-alcoholic to pertain to everyone. A variety of sodas are a good choice for non-alcoholic beverages.

As for alcoholic, you might want to check with people coming for what they prefer to drink so you don’t end up buying a lot of something that won’t get drunk. Lay out plastic cups so people don’t have to use nice glasses, and to avoid anything breaking.

6. Encourage bet making.

Nothing is better than challenging your friends to who will win the game, and then taking their money when you win. Encourage this type of environment, and there will never be a dull moment. You may even end up with more money than you had at the start of the day.

7. Rate the commercials and halftime show.

No matter if you are a fan of the halftime show performer or not, it’s still entertaining, and it’s likely everyone will have some sort of opinion on their performance. The same goes for the commercials. Some will be funny, and some will just be stupid.

Talking about the commercials and rating the halftime show just make for an even more entertaining and fun time, especially if something unexpected happens like it has in the past!
